After-School & Summer Finder FLKids & School · Somewhere safe from 3 to 6, and all summer
Florida

Where does my kid go from 3 to 6?

Say the child's age, the county and school, your work hours, what you can pay, and any needs — a disability, transportation, a sibling. In a few seconds you get the free and low-cost options that exist for that age and county, how to get the reduced fee, whether a subsidy applies, and what to ask. No account. Nothing stored.

Free — takes 20 seconds

Your child and your hours.

The child's age and school, the county, the hours you need covered (after school, before school, summer, school breaks), what you can pay per week, whether you need transportation, and any special needs.

Free. Takes a few seconds.

Why this exists

The free program is at your kid's school. Nobody sent the flyer home.

Federally funded after-school centers, a Boys & Girls Club membership for the price of a pizza, a YMCA scholarship you have to ask for, a state subsidy for working parents — the options exist and they're full of kids whose parents knew to ask. This lists what fits your county, your hours and your budget, and what to say.

Common questions

Is it really free? Is what I paste stored?

Yes, it's free, always — there are no fees for parents and no account needed. Nothing you type is stored; the tool only uses your child's age, county, hours and budget to show you options in the moment. The paid plans listed are for schools, employers, churches and community groups that want to offer the tool, not for individual parents.

Will this tell me the exact price of a program near me?

No — the tool never states a price, because fees change and vary by provider. It describes the cost structure instead (annual membership, weekly fee, sliding scale, or School Readiness co-pay) and tells you to ask for the reduced-fee or scholarship rate, since most of these programs have one and don't advertise it. Call the program directly to confirm what you'd actually pay.

What is School Readiness and how do I know if I qualify?

School Readiness is a subsidy that helps working families pay for before/after-school and summer care for children under 13, described by the Florida Division of Early Learning. It generally requires that a parent be working or in school and have income under the Early Learning Coalition's limit — the tool will tell you to check the current limit rather than guess it. You apply through your county's Early Learning Coalition, and there may be a wait list.

Is this an official government site — can I trust everything it lists?

No, After-School & Summer Finder FL is not a program or an agency itself; it points you to program types drawn from official sources like FDOE's 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Boys & Girls Clubs, the YMCA, and Florida Summer BreakSpot. It can be wrong or out of date, so you still need to call the program, ask about licensing and background screening, and confirm subsidy eligibility with your Early Learning Coalition. It is not child-care, legal or financial advice.

What should I ask before I enroll my child?

Ask about the program's licensing or license-exempt status with Florida DCF, staff background screening, child-to-staff ratios, and what happens if you're running late to pick up. Also ask whether the program follows the school calendar, how transportation works (many 21st CCLC and district programs are at the school, while some Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs run buses from specific schools), and how they support a child with ADHD or a disability. These are safety questions the tool suggests — it doesn't verify the answers for you.
