Type the numbers from your statement or contract. In a few seconds you get the interest you'll pay over the life of the loan, what paying a little extra does, whether refinancing is likely to help, and the Florida rules if you're behind. No account. Nothing stored.
Free — takes 20 seconds
Balance today, interest rate (APR), monthly payment, months left. If you know the car's rough value and your credit score range, add them — it changes the refinance answer.
Why this exists
A $389 payment at 21.9% for 42 months is thousands in interest, and a credit union down the street may cut it — but nobody on the lot does that math with you. This does it, shows it, and tells you who to call.
How it works
Balance, rate, payment, months left. Nothing is saved.
Interest left, what extra payments do, refinance scenarios — math shown, English or Spanish.
The payoff script, the credit-union script and the document list, in the full version.
Plans
The free check shows the interest, the extra-payment effect and the scenarios. The refinance pack gives you the comparison sheet, the document list and the scripts — and the hardship letter if you're behind.
The comparison sheet, the documents a credit union asks for, the scripts for both calls, and the hardship/extension letter if you need it. English or Spanish. Printable.
For a credit union that wants members to see what refinancing saves before they walk in, or a counseling agency that reviews budgets all day.
All prices in USD, handled by Stripe. The free check never goes behind a paywall.
Common questions
The basic loan check is free and nothing you type is stored, per the tool's own description. There are optional paid extras listed on the site: a Refinance pack for $9 per loan and a Credit unions & counselors option for $99 per month. Car Loan Check is not financial advice, so double-check any numbers with your lender or a nonprofit credit counselor.
Type your balance, rate, payment and months left and the tool runs the standard amortization formula, assuming a fixed rate and no fees, and rounds to dollars. It will ask you for any number it's missing (except the car's value, which you can skip). This is math on the numbers you give it — it can be wrong, and it's not financial advice.
The tool can show a scenario — for example, 'if a credit union offered 9%, your payment would be X and you'd save Y over the loan' — but it never claims to know what rate any lender will actually give you, since that depends on your credit, the car's age and mileage, and the lender. Compare at least two real offers before deciding, and see CFPB — Auto loans for how refinancing works.
In Florida, a lender may repossess after default without going to court, but it may not breach the peace doing it (Fla. Stat. 679.609). Call your lender before the due date and ask in writing for a deferment or extension — the tool never tells you to stop paying, hide the car, or let it be repossessed. This is general information from the statutes, not legal advice.
Before selling a repossessed car, the lender must send you notice, and you may still owe the difference plus costs (Fla. Stat. 679.611 · 679.614). If you're facing a deficiency claim, contact Florida legal aid at floridalawhelp.org — Car Loan Check explains the law in plain language but is not a substitute for legal advice.
