Florida's child support guideline, under §61.30, is not just about income. It also looks at how many overnights each parent has with the children. The number of overnights can raise or lower the monthly amount.

The 20% rule

Florida applies a time-sharing adjustment whenever a parent has 20% or more of the overnights. If neither parent crosses that line, the guideline uses the basic obligation from the schedule without this adjustment. If a parent does cross it, the calculation changes to reflect the time each parent actually has the children.
