Common questions

Is JapaneseDaily officially connected to the JLPT?

No. JapaneseDaily is a self-paced practice app; its phrases are built to sit inside the JLPT N5 level (about 100 kanji, 800 words), according to JLPT. We are not the testing body, so please confirm exam dates, requirements and results directly with JLPT.

How many characters do I need to memorize before I start?

Just 46 — the hiragana. According to the Japan Foundation, after unit 1 and about a week of practice you should be able to read every basic Japanese sound.

Will finishing this course guarantee I pass the JLPT N5?

No, there's no guarantee. Our phrases are designed to fit inside the JLPT N5 level (about 100 kanji, 800 words), per JLPT, but passing the actual exam depends on JLPT's own testing standards. Please check the official JLPT site for exact requirements and deadlines before relying on this course alone.

Is it really free? Is what I paste stored?

JapaneseDaily lists two paid plans — $4.99 and $29 — nothing beyond those two prices appears in our materials, so it isn't described as fully free. We don't have information here about whether text you type or paste is stored, so please check the app's own privacy policy or contact support directly before assuming anything about your data.

Is it even worth learning Japanese right now?

Interest is rising fast: Japanese became the 4th most-studied language in the world in 2025, passing German, according to the Duolingo Language Report 2025. That's a sign of general popularity, not a promise about your personal results, but it shows you're not starting alone.
