- Search on foot and by car in the direction he was last seen, widening as the hours pass.
- Put out scent items — his bed, a worn shirt, his food — near the door or where he was last seen.

A poster that actually gets phone calls
Keep it simple. People read posters from a moving car.
- One giant word: LOST, plus the species.
- One huge, clear photo of your dog.
- Your phone number in big, fat digits.
- Very few other words.
- A reward is optional. Never state the amount.
Two scams to ignore
Desperate families get targeted. Know these two before your phone rings.
- Anyone demanding money by gift card or wire transfer to "return" your dog.
- Fake "pet flight recovery" services calling from out of state.
Never pay anyone who cannot send a current photo of your dog.
Keep going — day 2 and beyond
Visit shelters in person every 48 hours. Phone descriptions fail. Widen your search radius. Refresh your posters and your online posts.
Most lost dogs are recovered. That's not a promise for your dog — but it's a real reason to keep going.
