What does this public job have to pay me?

Type your trade, the county, and what kind of job it is. In a few seconds you get which wage determination applies, how to read the rate and fringe line for your trade, and a question to ask the foreman or payroll. No account. Nothing stored.

Free — takes 20 seconds

Your trade. The county. The job.

If you know who is funding it (federal, state, city, private) say so. If you have the project name or the wage determination number from the jobsite poster, paste it.

Free. Takes a few seconds.

Why this exists

The rate is public. Nobody on the crew has seen it.

On a federally funded job the pay for each trade is set in writing before the first shovel. Most workers never see the sheet, so a short check goes unnoticed for a whole project. This shows you how to read the sheet and what to ask.

How it works

Twenty seconds. Then the right line on the right sheet.

01

Say the trade and the job

Trade, county, what kind of work, who is funding it. Nothing is saved.

02

Find your line

Whether the job is likely covered and exactly how to read your rate and fringe on the official determination — in English or Spanish.

03

Ask in writing

The question to payroll and a daily-log template, in the full version.

Plans

The lookup is free. The written request and log are $9.

Common questions

Is this legal advice, and can I trust the rate it gives me?

No. Prevailing Wage Lookup is not a lawyer and it never states a specific dollar rate from memory. The only official rate is the wage determination on SAM.gov Wage Determinations, and you should confirm anything here with the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division before relying on it.

What is the actual prevailing wage rate for my trade and county?

The tool won't quote a number itself because rates change by determination and modification. Instead it points you to sam.gov to read the line for your classification and county, and explains how to read it: base rate plus fringe, where fringe can be paid in cash.

Is it really free? Is what I paste stored?

The lookup itself is free and nothing you paste is stored. There are optional paid add-ons if you want them: a written request for one job ($9) or a monthly plan for contractors and union locals ($49/month).

My paycheck seems short. What should I do?

Don't walk off the job or confront the foreman. Start a daily log of your hours and trade, ask a written question to the foreman or payroll about the wage determination and fringe line, and if it's not resolved you can call the U.S. DOL Wage and Hour Division at 1-866-487-9243 in English or Spanish; retaliation for asking is prohibited.

Does Florida have its own prevailing wage law?

No. Florida has no state prevailing wage statute, and state law (Fla. Stat. 218.77) actually bars local governments from requiring one. Prevailing wage rules apply here only because of federal funding under the Davis-Bacon Act on contracts over $2,000, or because a federally assisted project (like HUD, FHWA, or EPA water) extends it under the Related Acts.
