Popular venues usually want 6-9 months of notice for spring and summer dates. If you're at three months or less, some vendors for peak-season dates may already be full. That's the honest starting point, not a reason to panic.

- If the popular ones are booked, ask about off-peak days, weekday dates, or smaller spaces.

Split the budget — and leave room for surprises
Venue and banquet typically take 40-50% of the total budget. Split what's left — dress, photography, DJ or group, cake, flowers — from there.
- Set aside 10% of the total budget for the unexpected. This is the standard rule for any event budget.
- Ask 2-3 vendors for written quotes before choosing anyone. Never guess a price — get it in writing.
Sign these contracts this week
With three months or less, some things need signing now, not later.
- Venue, photographer/video, and the group or DJ fill up fastest for in-season dates.
- The dress, if it's a special order, usually needs 3-6 months for ordering and alterations — ask your seamstress honestly what's still possible.
- Every contract should be in writing: date, hours included, overtime cost, and cancellation policy spelled out.
- Deposits typically run 20-50%. Never pay the full amount upfront.
- If a vendor only accepts cash with no receipt, that's a sign to look elsewhere.
Padrinos: ask early, ask clearly
A written list of who is sponsoring what avoids most family misunderstandings. Treat this conversation with care — every family's traditions are different, and there's no single right way to ask.
