Do I qualify for Florida's veteran property-tax exemption or Aid & Attendance?

What this page explains

This page covers two separate benefits: Florida's property-tax exemption for veterans, and VA Aid & Attendance. They come from different agencies and have different rules. Neither this page nor the free tool can tell you if you will be approved — only the VA or your county property appraiser can decide that.

Florida's property-tax exemption

Florida offers property-tax exemptions and discounts for some disabled veterans and surviving spouses. You apply through your county property appraiser's office, not through the VA. This is a state and county program, so rules can vary by county.

VA Aid & Attendance

Aid & Attendance is an add-on to Veterans Pension. It's for veterans who need help with daily activities — bathing, dressing, eating — or who are largely confined to their home. Housebound is a separate add-on for veterans substantially confined to their home.

Veterans Pension — the base benefit

Veterans Pension is for wartime veterans who are 65 or older, or who have a permanent disability, and who have limited income and assets. Aid & Attendance and Housebound are paid on top of pension, not on their own.

What we don't know

We don't know your income, assets, medical needs, or which county you live in. All of those affect whether you qualify. We can't estimate a rating or a dollar amount for any of these benefits — the VA and your county decide that, not this page.

What to do next

The free tool asks a few questions about your service, age, health, and income and shows which of these benefits you're likely eligible for, based on your own numbers, with the right form numbers. Bring the result to a free accredited representative — a Veterans Service Officer through floridavets.org — before you apply. Never pay anyone a percentage of back pay or an up-front fee to file a claim.
