Where can I find a homeless shelter near me tonight?
Use the free tool — Food & Shelter Tonight
Call 211 first
If you need food, a bed, or somewhere cool tonight in Florida, call 211. It's free, confidential, available 24 hours a day, in any language. The person who answers knows what's open in your county tonight — this page does not.
Say your ZIP code and what you need: a meal, a bed, a cool place, diapers, or a place that takes a pet. Ask them to repeat any address or phone number back to you, and write it down.
If you're a veteran, you can also call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 1-877-424-3838, 24 hours a day.
If you're leaving a dangerous home
Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788. It's free and available 24 hours a day.
Domestic violence shelters are confidential. They are not listed in 211, Feeding Florida, or any public finder — that's on purpose, to keep people safe. The hotline is the way in.
If your phone shares your location with anyone, someone could see where you've been — you may want to turn that off before you call or text. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
If you have children with you
Families are generally kept together in family shelters. Call 211 and tell them how many adults and children, and their ages — they can tell you which shelters are taking families tonight.
This page can't promise you a bed. Only 211 or the shelter itself can confirm that a family is coming in tonight.
If you have a car, a pet, or your phone is about to die
A car is something to work with. If you need to wait somewhere overnight, a well-lit, staffed 24-hour public place is generally safer than an empty lot — but no specific location is guaranteed to allow overnight parking, so ask before you settle in.
If you have a pet, tell 211 or whoever answers a finder's line right away — not every shelter takes animals, and they can tell you which ones nearby do.
If your phone battery is low, call 211 first, before doing anything else. Write down every name, number, and instruction they give you in case the phone dies right after.
What to do next
You don't have to remember all of this. Type your ZIP code and what you need into Food & Shelter Tonight — a meal, a bed, somewhere cool, a place that takes your dog. The free tool reads what you type and gives you a plan back: who to call first, the exact words to say, and the finders below that list what's open near you tonight.
- 211.org — free, confidential, 24 hours, any language.
- Feeding Florida — Find Food — pantries and mobile distributions by county.
- HUD Find Shelter — shelter, food, health care, and clothing near your ZIP.
- findhelp.org — food, housing, transit, health, and legal help by ZIP.
Always confirm by phone before you travel. Hours change, and this page can't see what's open tonight. This is not legal or medical advice — for anything urgent, call 211 or 911.
