If your employer won't report your injury

An employer refusing to report an injury does not erase your rights. You can still write down what happened, report it in writing yourself, and keep your own dated record. This page explains the general steps and Florida deadlines. It is not legal or medical advice.

Write it down now

Report it in writing anyway

If your employer won't file a report, put your report in writing yourself and keep a copy. A written, dated record protects you even if the employer never files anything. Under the Florida rules described here, you generally have 30 days to report the injury.

The Florida deadlines

These are general workers' compensation deadlines, based on Florida Statutes chapter 440 and public Division of Workers' Compensation guidance. They have exceptions, so confirm your exact deadline with the Division of Workers' Compensation or an attorney.

If the employer still won't cooperate

You are not on your own. Florida's free Employee Assistance Office can be reached at 1-800-342-1741. For a denied or disputed claim, talk to a workers' compensation attorney; free consultations are standard. For any emergency, call 911.

What to do next

This free tool reads what you describe about your injury, in your own words, and gives you the first-24-hours checklist, the Florida deadlines, and a dated written incident statement you can keep. It works in English and Spanish. It is not legal or medical advice — confirm your situation with the Division of Workers' Compensation or a professional.
