How many continuing-education hours do you need?
Florida law sets the number of hours by the size of your association. Under Fla. Stat. 720.3033, a director must complete:
- 4 hours a year if the association has fewer than 2,500 parcels.
- 8 hours a year if the association has 2,500 parcels or more.
The certificate you file when you are first elected or appointed is valid for up to 4 years. After that, the annual hours above keep you current. See Fla. Stat. 720.3033.
The 90-day filing deadline
Separately from the annual hours, a newly elected or appointed HOA director has 90 days to file a certificate of department-approved education. A director who does not file on time is suspended from the board until they comply. See Fla. Stat. 720.3033.
Who approves the course
The Division of Florida Condominiums, Timeshares, and Mobile Homes, part of the Florida DBPR, approves the education providers. This tool does not deliver the course and cannot issue your certificate. Check the Division's page to confirm a provider is approved before you enroll. See Florida DBPR.
What your association keeps on file
- The signed certificate of completion.
- The association retains the certificate for 5 years for member inspection.
