I lost Medicaid in Florida — can I get Marketplace insurance now?

You lost Medicaid — what this page covers
Your Florida Medicaid ended. Maybe you missed a renewal deadline, or DCF decided you no longer qualify. This page explains, in plain words, what you can still do — get back into Medicaid, appeal, or move to Marketplace coverage. It is not legal advice. Only DCF decides eligibility, and this page can be wrong — always confirm with DCF or free legal aid.
You may still get Medicaid back — no new application
If your Medicaid ended because you did not send back a renewal, federal rules give you 90 days to send the paperwork anyway. During those 90 days, the state must process your renewal without making you start a new application (42 C.F.R. § 435.916 — Medicaid renewals). The fastest way to send documents is through MyACCESS — it's online, and it time-stamps what you send.
- Keep copies of everything you submit.
- Write your case number on every page.
- If you're unsure the 90 days still apply to your case, call DCF at 1-850-300-4323 and ask.
You can appeal the decision
You can ask for a Fair Hearing to challenge a Medicaid decision. If you request it before your termination date, your benefits can keep going while the appeal is decided. Your notice from DCF gives the exact deadline to request a hearing — use that date, not a guess. This tool cannot tell you your deadline; it can only help you read your letter.
If Medicaid is truly over — Marketplace coverage now
Losing Medicaid opens a special enrollment period for Marketplace insurance on HealthCare.gov, and subsidies are likely for many people in this situation (HealthCare.gov — Medicaid/CHIP loss). You do not have to wait for the yearly open enrollment window. A related free tool, Marketplace Subsidy Check FL, can help you see what subsidy amount might apply once you have your numbers — it does not decide anything for you either.
Seniors, people with disabilities, and children
Medicaid tied to Medicare (Medicare Savings Programs, Extra Help), SSI-related Medicaid, and long-term care programs have their own income and asset rules — different from general Medicaid renewal rules. For help with those, contact SHINE at 1-800-963-5337 or your local Aging and Disability Resource Center. If your letter is about a child's coverage, children's Medicaid and Florida KidCare have higher income limits — see the separate Kid's Health Coverage FL tool for that.

What to do next
Paste your DCF letter — or type what it says — into the free tool. It reads your own document and your own numbers, and shows you in plain words: whether the 90-day window still applies, your appeal deadline if one is printed on your letter, and whether a Marketplace special enrollment period is open for you. Nothing you paste is stored. This is not legal advice — confirm anything important with DCF or free legal aid.
