How Do I Get My Suspended Driver License Back After Court Fines in Florida?

Use the free tool — Reentry Roadmap FL

Why your license may be suspended

In Florida, a driver license can be suspended for unpaid court fines and fees, or for missed child support payments. These are two different problems with two different fixes, so the first step is finding out which one applies to you.

Check your status first

Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has an online check that shows whether your license is suspended and why. Confirm your status there before you do anything else — don't guess.

If it's court fines and fees

The clerk of court in the county where you were sentenced can set up a payment plan for outstanding fines and fees. Many county clerks also hold driver license reinstatement events. Ask your county clerk about driver license reinstatement — this page can't tell you the fee amount or the length of a payment plan, because that's set case by case.

If it's missed child support

A license can also be suspended for child support arrears. Arrears can sometimes be modified, but this page can't describe that process — it depends on your case. The clerk of court or a legal aid attorney can walk you through it.

What we don't know

We don't have current fee amounts, how long a payment plan can run, or which reinstatement events are happening near you right now. FLHSMV and your county clerk have the current numbers — this page only tells you where to look.

What to do next

This is general information, not legal advice, and it can be wrong. Confirm your specific situation with FLHSMV or your county clerk of court before you act. The free Reentry Roadmap FL tool reads your own numbers — your suspension notice, sentencing documents, or a clerk's letter — and turns them into a plain-language checklist, in order, for getting your license back. Nothing you enter is stored.
