Maybe. Florida law gives a 3-day cancellation right for door-to-door sales. If a roofer knocked on your door after the storm and you signed on the spot, this rule may apply to you. This guide explains what is in the material we have — it is not legal advice.
The 3-day rule
Florida statute §501.025 gives buyers a 3-day right to cancel certain door-to-door sales contracts. The material we have does not spell out every detail — for example, exactly which day the 3 days start counting, or what form the cancellation notice must take. Confirm the exact procedure with a professional or with the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS) or DBPR before you assume you are protected.
Other rules that may matter
- §489.126 — limits deposits to 10% and requires work to start within 90 days, for contracts that qualify.
- Insurance policies written after 2023 cannot include an assignment of benefits (AOB) — a clause that hands your insurance claim to the contractor. Check whether your contract has this language.
- Florida Statutes 489.127, 627.7152, 713.015 and 817.234 also cover licensing, insurance claims, liens and fraud — each may be relevant depending on what your contract says.
