How Do I Check If a Florida Contractor's License Is Real?

Use the free tool — Storm Contractor Contract Check FL

Why the license matters before you sign anything

After a storm, contractors show up fast, sometimes with a contract already on the hood of the truck. A real Florida contractor has a license number you can check. A storm chaser often does not, or gives you a number that doesn't match. Checking the license is free and takes a few minutes.

Where to check a Florida contractor's license

Florida licenses are handled by DBPR. You can look up any contractor's license, free, at myfloridalicense.com. This tool cannot verify the license for you — you have to do this lookup yourself.

Other Florida rules that protect you in the contract itself

Once you've checked the license, the contract itself should follow Florida rules, including:

These rules come from Florida Statutes 489.126, 489.127, 501.025, 627.7152, 713.015 and 817.234, as of 2025–26. This is informational only, not legal advice.

If you already signed something, or paid a deposit

This tool does not cancel contracts and can't undo a signature or a deposit already paid. If you already signed an assignment of benefits (AOB), or paid a large deposit, or you suspect fraud, call the Florida DFS fraud line at 1-800-378-0445 or DBPR at 850-487-1395.

What to do next

Paste your contract into Storm Contractor Contract Check FL — free, in English and Spanish. It reads your own document and shows you, clause by clause, the deposit size, the start date, any AOB language, and the cancellation deadline, against the Florida rules above. It still cannot verify the license for you — do that lookup yourself, free, at myfloridalicense.com. This is not legal advice; check with a professional if you're unsure.
