Can You Get Unemployment After a Gig App Deactivation in Florida?
Use the free tool — Gig Deactivation Appeal
What a deactivation notice means for your income
Being deactivated from Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, Amazon Flex, Spark or another app can stop your income right away. This page looks at one question: can you get unemployment help in Florida while you sort out the deactivation? This is general information, not legal or tax advice. Always confirm your situation with the agency or a professional.
Are gig workers usually eligible for Florida reemployment assistance?
Florida law (Fla. Stat. 451.01) classifies transportation network company drivers as independent contractors when certain statutory conditions are met. Independent contractor status usually affects eligibility for state reemployment assistance.
This does not mean you are automatically excluded. FloridaCommerce decides each case on its own facts. You may still apply.
- Apply through the FloridaCommerce Reemployment Assistance Service Center.
- Let the state review your specific work situation — do not assume the answer before you apply.
If a background check caused your deactivation
If your notice mentions a consumer report, background check, Checkr, HireRight, or a driving record from a report, the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you rights:
- You can get a free copy of the report from the company named in your notice.
- You can dispute anything inaccurate or incomplete with that company.
- The platform must have given you a copy of the report and a summary of your rights before a final adverse decision.
See CFPB — background checks & your rights. A successful dispute does not guarantee reinstatement, but you can send the corrected report along with your review request.

If you need free legal help
If your deactivation involves discrimination — race, religion, disability or national origin — the EEOC or the Florida Commission on Human Relations can be contacted, and an employment lawyer can look at your situation. For any legal question, Florida's statewide directory of free civil legal help is FloridaLawHelp.org.
What to do next
The free tool reads your own deactivation notice and tells you the likely reason, the platform's own review path, and whether a background check or ratings issue is involved. Nothing you paste is stored. It is not a lawyer and cannot get you reinstated — the notice you received is the authority on what happens next.
